Year 8 First Give Project begins

‘Service to others’ is a core value at TRS and Y8 have been exploring exactly what this means as they embark on the national First Give programme. First Give are a charity that work with schools to inspire young people to make a positive change in society. Year 8 have been busy researching social issues, identifying organisations that tackle these issues and in the last two weeks have invited charities into tutor sessions to find out more. We were delighted to hear from organisations such
as The Sussex Snowdrop Trust, Stonepillow, Turning Tides, Capital Trust Project, My Sisters House, Change Grow Live, Young Minds, Naomi’s House and West Sussex Mind in a series of tutor time Q & A sessions. This has inspired Y8 on the next stage of the First Give project; planning and delivering a social action that
will raise funds and awareness for their chosen cause.

Over the next few weeks Y8 will take practical action to create a positive change and will document their activities ready to create a presentation to promote their work. Each tutor group will nominate a team to attend a presentation skills workshop with First Give, and in May we will hold the grand final. All 10 tutor groups will present their social action to a panel of judges and the rest of the year group, with the winning tutor group being presented with a cheque for £1000 to
donate to their partner charity.
