Year 10 Student Selected for Argentinian Adventure

Sophie Gilbert will be experiencing the Summer of a lifetime as she travels to Córdoba, Argentina for three weeks through girl-guiding. She has been a guide since 2001 and applied for the prestigious LaSERIO international trip in the hope she would be able to make a difference to young people overseas. As part of the selection process she attended a selection weekend, where she took part in team building activities, hosted games/crafts and gave presentations to the other girls in a hope to get chosen to go on one of the four LA SERIO trips, Argentina, Thailand, Mongolia or Uganda. There were seven girls total at the selection weekend and only two of them were selected.
Sophie explained, ‘during the expedition, we will be partnering with the Charity Projects Abroad, who are coordinating a Care and Community Project for us. Our project will be based in a kindergarten, where we will be providing care for the children, supporting the teachers through educational, physical and creative activities. We will also be undertaking renovation work on the classrooms to enhance the environment for the children. This will include tasks such as painting, building and maintenance’.
Sophie needs to fundraise a total of £2,800 for the trip. She said, ‘I have already raised almost half of the money myself and plan to hold a variety show in March to help raise the rest of the funds’. Sophie has planned the event herself and if you are interested in supporting her please let Mrs Saunders, Mr Vassiliou or Mrs Georgiou know. The variety show will take place on Saturday the 2nd of March, 6.30pm at the New Town Social Club, Bognor Regis. Tickets are £5 each.
