Fantastic Start for New Regis Students
Year 7 students (all 300 of them!) have made an excellent start to this academic year and much of this is due to the excellent transition support that they have received. Mrs Trickett, who leads transition, organises a wide range of activities and information to ensure Year 7 are fully supported, as we know how starting a new school can be quite daunting! Mrs Trickett and Mrs Hack, the Head of Year 7, spent lots of time with all our new Year 7 in their primary schools over the summer term speaking to their teachers and running question and answer sessions which pupils loved! Parents were given a Hints and Tips booklet full of useful guidance and the opportunity to become accustomed to their new surroundings before the rest of the school arrived. Parents received our fortnightly ‘Regis News’ to keep them updated on the huge range of opportunities and successes over the summer term. Finally, students had the chance to visit our school on two transition days in June and July to ensure they were fully prepared, having a clear overview of life at The Regis School and contributing to our ‘Regis 10.’
First Day
The first day began with Year 7 only, this provided the opportunity to get accustomed to their new surroundings before the rest of the school cohort arrived. Students spent some time with their tutor as well as receiving tours of the building making sure they knew where they were going. After meeting their form students excitedly went to their first lesson. This was followed by a whole school assembly helping our new Year 7’s feel part of our whole school community. Lunchtime proved even more exciting as they faced a wide range of choices in the dining room. By the end of their first day, all of our Year 7 students left tired but happy with lots of new friends. What an amazing start to the year!
Alfie told us about his first week “in one word, amazing! It has been a great new start! The teachers are lovely and very welcoming.”
