The Regis School Sports Leaders have been working hard over the November/December period. They have supported the running of:
* 10 Primary Football Tournaments * A Rowing Festival * Sportshall Athletics Competition
* Infant Agility Festival * Dodgeball Festival
Each event needed a variety of Leadership skills. From officiating to coaching. The Leaders have varied from Year 8 all the way up to Sixth Form. All showing the essential role model qualities needed. Encouraging local primary children to come to The Regis School and become a Sports Leader themselves. The Sports Leadership Programme at TRS helps develop valuable attributes from organisation, confidence, teamwork and so much more supporting “whole child” development.
The Football Tournaments saw high quality officiating. The Tournaments included Bognor & Chichester of which the winners progress onto the county finals. With The Regis School/West Sussex West School Sport Partnership becoming a “Girls Football Partnership” we have run an additional 2 girls football events compared to last year. Both organised and officiated by Regis Sports Leaders, one Sixth Formers the other Year 9s. The aim to support the national target of “Every girl has equal access to football in school by 2024”
The Rowing Festival saw 120 children learning how to increase fitness and teamwork in rowing races on the rowing machines. The Sportshall Athletics had 210 athletes competing in the athletics format “Sportshall Athletics” a range of track and field in an exciting Olympic style format.
The Year 8 Sports Leaders travelled over to Westgate Leisure Centre to support primary infant activities in the Chichester area. Regis Sports Leaders are supporting the national health agenda of increasing activity. Ensuring a fun and positive first sporting experience for the Reception/Year one children offsite, increasing the likelihood of lifelong participation & love for sport/activity.
The fast pace game of Dodgeball is hard to officiate and avoid getting hit, but the Leaders as always maintained professionalism throughout.
Across these events the Leaders worked with over 1,400 children!! A fantastic contribution to the community and local schools.
