Silent Protest Sparks Climate Change Chat

Rights Respecting Ambassadors at The Regis School held a silent protest to raise awareness of climate change issues. They stood at the front of the school, complete with protest banners as staff and students arrived. The impact was fantastic, as the spectacle prompted questions and support from the school community. The event was staged on World Children’s Day, with many of the student ambassadors saying they felt the right to a clean environment was perhaps the most important right of all. The students plan to hold further protests, and will invite the wider school body to take part.

What the students had to say:

Robert Fletcher - I feel that all we have done will truly make a difference and this is something I really love doing and I hope that someone higher up notices us so we can show the world what we do!

Julia Witek - We did a silent climate change protest because I believe that wild habitats and nature should not get effected by the heat.  I think the government should pay more attention to the youth who are the future of our world.

Sophia Griffiths - I went on a silent climate protest because I cannot see the earth drown in water without me trying my best, with islands already being suffocated from ice caps melting we’re losing beautiful wildlife with flowers that could potentially cure cancers.  There is no planet B, we must act now.

Callum Dwyer - Its really important that we keep out planet healthy because if we make our atmosphere toxic there isn’t an ‘Earth Number 2’ to go to.  We are stuck with one planet lets keep it clean.

Megan Bryant-Lawson - I believe the protest successfully brought awareness to the current situation in climate change, because we stood silent with banners and were surrounded by a crowd.  This is a matter I feel strongly about and cannot wait to do it again.  People began asking questions and reading the banners.

Edward Clark - I decided to take part today because it is our world and our generation, and if politicians aren’t going to do anything I will.
