15 of our students had the experience of a lifetime this week as they were fortunate to receive tickets to We Day UK in recognition of their work promoting recycling as part of the Green Team. Not only did they hear inspirational stories from other school children from across the country, they joined 12,000 other young people in Wembley Arena to hear Prince Harry’s keynote speech. The Duke of Sussex inspired the crowd with his call to action on themes as diverse as climate change and mental health. To add to the excitement his wife, Megan joined him on stage, leaving our students with memories that will last a lifetime.
The day was organised by the We Charity and its purpose is to encourage young people to be change-makers in their local community. The Regis School students were given the honour of being one of a handful of schools invited to meet and greet all the celebrity presenters on the ‘blue carpet’. Whilst getting selfies and autographs with starts such as Nicole Scherzinger and Tom Walker was amazing, it was the inspirational stories of hope in adversity that really caught the imagination of our students.
There is no doubt the experience will stay with them for a long time and they will be empowered to continue their work as ambassadors for environmental issues both in our school community and beyond.
Robert -Year 7 The best part for me was definitely the part with all the people with certain disabilities reaching out to us and showing us that nothing can bring them down which shows us that nothing can bring us down.
Dawson - Year 7 Personally my favourite part was listening to the people’s stories and what they did to fix it. This made me reflect on the obstacles I come across everyday such as illness and mental health. I had a wonderful day today and I would like to thank WE for the amazing opportunity.
Poppy -Year 9 For me the best part of WE day was listening to other peoples past life experiences and how they have overcome problems or moved on . This has affected me as I never realised how lucky I was in how fortunate I have been compared to others.
Josh - Year 10 The best part of my experience at WE Day has to be ultimately getting a selfie with both Nicole Scherzinger and Tom Walker but also watching them perform. Messages I will take away from this experience are that we all, in our special way, make a contribution to youth rights and from all the inspiring performances and speeches made by celebrities and young people, I will continue to do so in my own special ways! Thank You WE for this inspirational opportunity.
Sophia -Year 8 Thank you WE day, I had a fantastic day. I have met people who have inspired me .Today was my first WE day and I have felt so welcome. Thank you so much for making WE day possible.
