Over 1500 students have planted crocus corms to support the Rotary Clubs Purple for Polio campaign in the school grounds at The Regis School. Students learnt about the issue in tutor time then everyone of them had the opportunity to plant a lasting reminder of the issue.
This is the third year that students took part in the campaign and in March this year were treated to a spectacular display of purple crocus flowers, enjoyed by staff, students and the local bee population! The schools Rights Respecting Ambassadors prepared the ground, supervised the planting and designed the display. They are committed to promoting children’s rights and as such saw this as a great opportunity to raise awareness of Article 24 of the UNCRC (United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child).
The crocus corms were provided by the Rotary Club and Bob Parvard, Chair of the Youth Service for Bognor Rotary Club said, "Rotary’s motto is ‘Service Above Self” and this is exemplified in Rotary’s internal campaign to eradicate polio. Purple4Polio is about raising awareness of the campaign and the students of The Regis School have embraced this completely. I’ve enjoyed the privilege of working with them and am grateful to them for the way that they have welcomed me so generously and have embodied the principles of Rotary so commendably.”
