On Wednesday the 12th of December, students from Year 7 all the way through to Year 13 performed on stage to a large audience of staff, students, parents, carers and friends as part of the school’s Performing Arts Christmas Celebration. This event was organised and run by the Performing Arts Faculty and showcased a range of festive performance work including Dance, Music and Drama.
From Drama, there was a devised piece of theatre called ‘Behind the scenes of a Christmas Show’, created and performed by Drama club (and their Sixth Form Leaders), as well as a comedy ‘Nativity’ sketch by the Year 12 Drama Company and a pantomime, based on the story of ‘Cinderella’, performed by the Year 13 theatre company. These lively performances got the audience participating, involved and feeling in the Christmas Spirit!... ‘Oh yes they did!’
From Dance, there was a beautiful and emotive dance to the Christmas ballad ‘The Power of Love’ from Dance club ‘Signature Elite’ (choreographed by Student Leaders). This was followed later by the Year 9 Dance class who contributed a lively and cultural carnival style piece entitled, ‘A Brazilian Celebration’ to get everyone in the party mood!
On the Music side of the evening, the choir performed two pieces, ‘Somewhere only We Know’ as well as a blended version of ‘Winter wonderland’ & ‘Santa Comes to Town’ and the Sixth Form musicians prepared and performed lovely covers of well-known Christmas numbers, ‘Last Christmas’ and ‘Step into Christmas.’
A huge well done to all student performers as well as student leaders who were involved in creating what was a lovely festive evening. Thank you also to everyone who came along and lastly, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone… from the Performing Arts students and staff.
