A group of 90 local Year 5 and 6 children from St Mary’s Catholic School attended a Children’s Rights Focus Workshop, delivered by Regis School students.
The day included sessions on what are the Rights, why are they needed and encouraged the delegates to consider how they could contribute to uphold the Rights of the Child in their local and global community. Of course our Ambassadors delivered this with their usual creativity and energy so the morning included games, puzzles and even a goat themed obstacle course!
The schools RRS lead, Mrs Saunders said, ‘It was great when we were approached by St Mary’s who asked us to deliver this day to support their own work on Children’s Rights. As a UNICEF Gold Rights Respecting School we are expected to lead this work in our local community. It gave our student Ambassadors the opportunity to really share their passion for the Rights and it was lovely to see total engagement from all the young people involved.’
The day finished with a performance form the schools Junk Band, sharing their recycling message. This was clearly a highlight for the St Mary’s pupils as almost all of them pledged to recycle more at home and at school in the future. Feedback from the school was really positive, with Mr Edgington the Headteacher saying,
“I wanted to say a huge thank you to you and your staff for organising the RRS sessions for us at The Regis yesterday. The children were buzzing with enthusiasm when they returned and were inspired by the musical opportunities and creativity of the sessions. I know it must have taken a great deal of time and effort to organise so I wanted you to know that we appreciate your hard work”
