Annual Food Drive 2022

Once again Regis School staff and students have come together to support those in food poverty, donating over 1030kg of food to our annual food drive appeal. The event was planned and led by our student Rights Respecting Ambassadors, who delivered the food in person to Bognor Foodbank and food rescue charity UK Harvest. Year 7 collected the most food overall (306kg) with 8D being the tutor group who collected the most by weight (86kg).
Lola Kitson, one of our Year 9 RRS Ambassadors said, ‘these donations would not have had any effect on people without the help of UK harvest and the wonderful people who work and volunteer there. UK harvest is a prestigious organisation that has delivered 6.9 million meals to charities and individuals. It has also saved 2000 tonnes of food that would have otherwise been thrown away. Right now, 14.5 million people in the UK are living in poverty. That is one in 5. Charities like UK harvest help assist people by donating not only to charities and foodbanks but also to churches. This organisation also does pop-ups and workshops that teach young people how to make and cook food for a lower cost.’
Alfie Wilson, Year 10 RRS Ambassador explained, ‘The UNICEF Rights Respecting ambassadors collected the donations in the hall and weighed and sorted them. We then loaded the food donations up into the van and went to see the UK Harvest distribution centre to drop it off and look around.’ As a UNICEF gold RRS school, we encourage students to consider how children’s rights are upheld or denied, including the right to nutritious food.
Message from Sarah Morrison at UK Harvest: Thank you so much for hosting UKHarvest last Friday at The Regis School. Donna and Tash loved their time with you and said the energy there is always infectious. It sounds as though your ambassadors were super organised in creating the Thank You graphic outside and we were all blown away by the whopping total of 1030kgs of fabulous food equating to 4114 meals which in the tricky current climate will be so well received by our recipients this Winter.
It was great the children could come and help off load and see the UKHarvest warehouse with the reality and scale food rescue and re-distribution. We love the enthusiasm the Regis School always bring to Harvest Festival.
Please be sure to pass on our thanks to all your children, parents and the Regis community for their incredible generosity this year.
